The Iris Deception (Western Literature Series)
Published in Paperback by Univ of Nevada Pr (September, 1996)
Author: Bernard Schopen
Average review score:

A winner...
Bernard Schopen again does an outstanding job of taking the reader to the Reno, Nevada of PI Jack Ross. The storyline, the twists and turns, and the depiction of the natural beauty of northern Nevada combine to create for the reader an escape to this world. Let's have another one soon, Mr. Schopen!

Superb!
Bernard Schopen has a superb prose style and a sure eye for the telling detail. His characters are well rounded and his protagonist--the lawyer-detective, Jack Ross--is hard boiled but sensitive, in the tradition of Spenser and Elvis Cole. This excellent novel in an excellent series deserves to be widely read.

Reno Air Racing (Enthusiast Color Series)
Published in Paperback by Motorbooks International (August, 1996)
Author: Michael O'Leary

Finally - Photo's, Photo's, Photo's
This is a great little book. It provides the perfect balance of technical information without getting wordy, and a great selection of photographs. If you want a story go elsewhere. It includes the very rarely covered Super Corsair with some super pic's.

It may not be physically a big book but pound for pound its a champ.

Only negative: More More More!

Note: Other recommended reading;

Supershow by Dennis Baldry, Osprey

Sacrilege? Pushing the old birds to the limit at Reno
As with all aircraft photobooks by Michael O'Leary the quality of the photographs range from good to breathtakingly good, but this time there is accompanying text as well, very informative, and an index to find you race favorite. Whatever you might think of what is being done to those last surviving WW2 warbirds at Reno, fact is that some of the most spectacular paint-shemes are flown there, the cover of this book only giving a glimpse of the beauty of what is inside. For the ones of us who like to see just how the world-record holders level flight for piston engines looked like there can be no better book in my opinion, and this book shows them all: Mustangs, Bearcats, Corsairs, Thunderbolts, a Lightning, Furies, a Warhawk, an Airacobra, Kingcobras, Spitfires and even a Yak-3.

When the Music Changed
Published in Paperback by Signet Books (01 August, 1981)
Author: Marie R. Reno
Average review score:

Very Historically accurate....and a great story as well...
This is a very well written peice of work and it is very historically accurate and well researched. The characters as well rounded and very complex and well developed. Reno developes the characters in this book so well, it is as though you alomst feel as though you know them personally. If you love the American Civil War and a good story with a little love story then you will like this gem of a book. I would recomend it highly to anyone who loves historical romance, but demands historical accuracy. I only with the book did not end so soon...

When The Music Changed
I have never read anything like this book before. I loved it! The whole story takes place during the Civil War up to Lincoln"s death. I have done some research and much of the historical things that take place in the book are accurate. The young girl in the book reminds me a lot of myself she is independt and outspokenn, which in her time was very unacceptable. When were to be seen and not heard for the most part, but she was very well heard. She is and insperation with the exception of the fact that she has an affair. I would recommend this book to anyony who enjoy love stories. I laughed and was left in suspense. I cried and felt ther passion. I have never enjoyed a book more!

Fly Low Fly Fast: Inside the Reno Air Races
Published in Hardcover by Viking Press (September, 1999)
Author: Robert L. Gandt
Average review score:

So-so book on a great event
The book is OK, but concentrates far too much effort on just a few pilots/teams. The author repeats his text several times throughout the book, and while trying to come across as way too cool, he just sounds like an obnoxious idiot. Reno deserves better.

A good book about a great event.
Gandt does a respectable job describing the history and inner-circle of the Reno Air Races avent. The book is NOT a great work, and this is quite evident in Gandt's continual fawning of an Unlimited Class pilot named Tiger Destefani. Gandt tries to make this character into something larger-than-life, but instead what actually becomes quite clear is that Gandt himself places more value on the crude behavior and huge egos of air racers and fighter pilots. He would have done a much better job had he taken a more balanced approach, to include the contributions of brilliant designers and test pilots. Instead, he just showed the ridiculous side of egos and self-worth based upon how fast your airplane flies.

Great book
This is the best book i have ever read. It's like your are in the cockpit flying the race. If you are interested in air racing this is the book you should get.

Edmonia Lewis - The Sculptor They Called "Wildfire"
Published in CD-ROM by Bookmice.com Inc. (15 January, 2000)
Authors: Dawn Reno and Aliske Webb
Average review score:

boring and bland
Being an African-American woman, and craving well-written, educational stories with black characters, I was excited about this book.

Like a child on Christmas, I anxiously awaited its arrival. But boy, was I disappointed.

It was said that the author Dawn Reno had composed a heart rending narrative.

Talk about misleading the buyer. What a joke! I wasn't remotely touched by what I read.

The story was under-developed in some enormously significant places.

Edmonia was accused of murder, and a few sentences later, she was exonerated.

Reno neglected to show Edmonia agonizing over her fate. There was no trial. Nothing.

And worse than poor development, and a story that lacked depth, Reno's prose was as flat as three day old Pepsi. I realize that the story was written for young readers, but that is no excuse for drab writing.

The book was a waste of money. I'd been better off donating the cost of the novel to a worthwhile charity.

great story for young girls
i bought this book for my grandkids. they were thrilled to have it in the CD format and liked the links to other sites about Edmonia and friends. what i liked most about the book was the way Harriet Hosmer told the story. I thought it was very intersting. stories about black women who have succeeded in today's world aren't offered often enough, so i think this is a valuble addition to any child's bookshelf.

Powerful story of an incredible woman
Being an art major, I have always been amazed at how little is written about African American women in the arts. This book, though written for children, has more information about Edmonia Lewis, the sculptor, than any other sources I have come across. Though one of the reviewers seems to find fault with no details about Lewis's trial, I know for a fact that there aren't any details . . . and would have found it negative if Reno had supplied a fictional account of the matter. This is DEFINITELY a book I'd purchase for my child or any black child--and I recommend it highly!

The Unofficial Guide to eBay and Online Auctions
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (October, 2000)
Authors: Dawn Reno and Bobby Reno
Average review score:

Should have had a yellow jacket, and read "for dumbies".
This book was very weak in content. It provides few noteworthy pointers. It is basically a common sense walk-through, of how to view an auction business. If you aren't a complete idiot, you probably have no use for this book.

Excellent book to help you sell
Like the other reviewer, I'm not a high-volume Ebay seller but I do run some auctions every month. This book covered a great deal of what I wanted to know about how to run my auctions and make them more profitable. It has a wealth of information on alternate auctions sites too.

Highly recommended for anyone who wants to get going on eBay.

Like An Inexpensive Crash Course On Online Auctions
When I finished reading this book, I felt like an "auction expert"... even though I've never bid or sold items on an online auction before. It seems to have many good tips only experience can teach you. I felt I learned all I needed in this book to get a good start. It appears there are no loose ends or anything left out. Very complete with urls to web resources such as appraisers, automation and tracking software to making selling at auctions a business.

Are you *sure* you want this?
This book should be called "77 jobs you can get with an old rag and a can of Comet cleanser." Clean bathrooms? Scrub graffiti off walls? Groom pets? The jobs in this book are only "careers" if you *truly* have no talent or experience. If that's your situation, then this book will give you ideas. And if you've got kids who want to earn extra money, this book might give them ideas. But if you really want tips on becoming an entrepreneur, this book will only be good for a laugh

If you ever wanted to be your own boss - read this book!
The usual expectations we grow up with are: get a job and struggle most of our life while making someone else rich. If this makes you feel like a slave and you'd like a better life, one that YOU control, Kelly Reno's book shows you just how simple it is to make one for yourself
